Museo Nazionale della Pentria e Isernia
In 1979, the remarkable discovery of an ancient village outside Isernia has made the area the site of many excited excavations. 'Ancient' may even be an understatement, because the age of the artifacts found dates back 700,000 years. This may be the oldest intact settlement yet to be found in Europe. The Museo Santa Maria delle Monache houses stone tools and other fascinating items being found daily by archaeologists and conservationists.
